The Phasmids include a group of heterometabular phytophagous insects, widespread especially in eastern tropical areas. They live among the vegetation, where they blend perfectly, thanks to their leaf or stick appearance. In Europe there are only stick shapes; in our country, especially in the warm areas of the south, the species Bacillus rossius (= B. rossii) Ros. is common, known as the Stick insect. The stick insect has an elongated and thin body, devoid of wings and with long and thin legs; its shape perfectly camouflages it among the small branches of the shrubs. The male measures about 60 mm, while the females can also reach 100 mm in length; the coloring is variable, for both sexes, from green to brownish. They move slowly and can remain almost stationary for hours while feeding.
