Origin and diffusion

Originally from Switzerland, it has spread to many European and non-European countries. It is the typical breed for intensive breeding, stabled or with partial recourse to grazing. It is the most common breed in Europe.
Area of ​​greatest breeding in Italy: Puglia, Piedmont, Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany and Lazio. The breed herd book was established in Italy in 1973. Breed with aptitude for milk production.
It is one of the seven goat breeds officially recognized in Switzerland (Appenzel, Camosciata from the Alps, Saanen, Grisons crawl, Toggenburg, Vallesana, Verzaschese).

Morphological and productive characteristics

Cut it: medium-large.
Head: small, light and fine, possibility of horns in both males and females. Rectilinear profile with presence of beard especially in males. Long neck with or without presence of tits.
Trunk: wide thorax and abdomen. Large and well developed breast; medium-sized, straight, conical and vertically raised capes. Long and well proportioned limbs.
Pile: White. Thin and usually non-pigmented skin
